Art for Spastics v. 162: Re-Introducing the Damaged Pop Wave

You could say that for the last couple of years, a new era of "damaged pop" has begun to come back in the underground. With interest in the British DIY "Messthetic," kiwi pop of Flying Nun, and the history of rural American protopunk and weirdpunk through the ages, it's no wonder more people are finding their way to new bands like Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit. Much of what's played on this AFS is what you might call "damaged pop."

good god, before even getting to your show, what was that track from the previous show, Wooden Wand or something? more details, I beg of you. I need that like a hole in the head, and yeah, I love holes in my head.

Can you believe that I actually cut that track short by four or five minutes? That was one helluva groove!

The previous DJ brought that in from his home collection. I'd not been exposed to it previously, so I can't tell you much except that I understand that was a project of Wooden Wand's called Hassara, and the CD was called "Backyard vol I-III" or something like that. Might be filed under H or W depending on the store, I guess. A quick Google search of "Wooden Wand Hassara" appears to put you on the right path. Good luck!

Yea that's some groove, but fuck, if this ain't one of the best radio shows I've heard in foreverz!

Bravo, DJ, this is quite some compilation you've assembled. Seriously floored at the quality of these oddball selections. Glad that damaged music has a place, a well organized and informative place, on this land.

And special thanks for the Doxa Sinistra find. Way deep in ADN. They released a cassette in a friggin milk cartoon in the way back. Brilliant. (Also I must got a copy of that Hermann CD-R!)
